Before I get started with this blog, the idea comes from our curriculum Sonlight, which may I say is awesome! It requires alot of reading, but it is perfect for this family of bookworms.
E is doing the K curriculum, and really enjoying it, he is more of a tactile/Kinesthetic learner, like his father, so teaching him as been very much of a challenge. A and I learn from reading/doing, and so I teach him in the way I would learn it. E on the other hand, well he's just a challenge all the way around ;-)
I'm always on the lookout for fun things to do, we do a lot of lapbooks, lapbook games, write letters in corn meal, things I never did with A. This past week the curriculum suggested we make jello and cut letters out of it, I of course never did it the first time around with A.
First, I didn't have Jello, but I did have plain Gelatin so we made Apple Juice Jello.I put 2 packets of gelatin, 1/2 cup cold juice in a big bowl to sit, while I boiled three more cups of juice. I then put the boiled juice in the bowl, stirred for a bit, and poured all that in a 9x13 pan and stuck it in the fridge.
After a few hours (I put it on the top of the fridge which is colder, so it didn't take to long) I pulled it out. Now for the tricky part, getting it out of the pan....I boiled some water and stuck it in another 9x13 pan and stuck my jello pan on top, the boiled water loosened up the jello so it came out pretty well in one piece.
I had bought some ABC cookie cutters years ago when I lead a youth group and the girls and I had a Jello Party, so out those came and my guys both had a great time, eating their names.
Manners are optional when eating Jello names....
